MAIB Annual Report 2007

The MAIB has issued its Annual Report for 2007. It records 52 fatalities involving UK non-commercial vessels of which 10 were connected with sea going sailing and motor vessels. Of these three occurred in one incident; the capsize of the 7.34m motor cruiser Last Call off Whitby in December. A further three fatalities occured in two separate incidents involving yacht tenders.

Canoeing accounted for 12 fatalities and accidents involving narrowboats and cabin cruisers on inland waters a further 10. Of the latter fire caused four deaths and carbon monoxide poisoning another two.

The MAIB has decided not to repeat the proactive collation of accident reports which it published in 2005 and 2006.

The Annual Report is available from the MAIB website.
